Melissa Joan Hart became a star by playing Clarissa Darling on the Nickelodeon sitcom Clarissa Explains It All, which ran from 1991 to 1994. The show gave her a lasting following among the young viewers who grew up with Nickelodeon. In 2018 she appeared in the documentary The Orange Years: The Nickelodeon Story.

Melissa Joan Hart played the title role in the live-action Sabrina the Teenage Witch for seven seasons, from 1996 to 2003. Beth Broderick, Caroline Rhea and Nate Richert co-starred. She also voiced the character in Sabrina: The Animated Series (1999).

Melissa Joan Hart built a film career alongside the series. She appeared in Can’t Hardly Wait (1998) and starred in the teen comedy Drive Me Crazy (1999). She also starred in the thriller Nine Dead (2009).

Melissa Joan Hart played Grace Wesley in God’s Not Dead 2 (2016) and later played Liz in the Netflix series No Good Nick. Under a deal with Lifetime she has produced 10 movies, directed four and acted in six. Recent films include The Bad Guardian (2024), Killing the Competition (2025) and A Merry Little Ex-Mas (2025). The Lifetime film Black Widow was slated for October 2026.

Melissa Joan Hart has also directed episodes of Young Sheldon, The Goldbergs, Schooled and iCarly. In 2013 she published a memoir, Melissa Explains It All: Tales from My Abnormally Normal Life.
